It is a 12 hour training course split into one full day and one half day.

  • Day 1: 8am - 5pm
  • Day 2: 8am - 12pm

Very lively and hands on session. Trainers focus on teaching concepts as well applying them immidiately to real world problems.

Day 1

  • Welcome and Introductions

Welcome participants, introduce ground rules and expectations. Ice breakers and introductions, funny anecdotes around problems faced in daily jobs.

  • DMAIC framework

Interactive session to understand continuous improvement and DMAIC concepts.

  • What is the issue, why is it important, why now DEFINE Phase

Problem Charter, Business Case, Voice of the customer (VoC), Critical to Quality (CTQ) Requirements, SIPOC, Process Maps. Group exercises to create charter, VoC and process map for participant projects.

  • Coffee/Bio break

  • Establish baseline performanceMeasure Phase

Key components of this phase include collecting baseline data and conducting data analysis. Tools include time series plots, histograms and pareto charts.

Exercises on creating Time Series, Histograms, Pareto charts

  • Lunch break

  • Analyse Process and Performance Data, identify root causes (Fishbone)Analyze Phase

The goal of the DMAIC Analyze phase is to identify potential root causes for the process problem being addressed and then confirm actual root causes with data.

Having completed the Measure phase, the project team should have already established a clear problem statement which specifies what the problem is and under what circumstances it occurs. They should have already gathered and analyzed data to establish the baseline performance of the process, relative to the Critical To Quality measures (CTQs) established based on customer input.

The question that the Analyze phase seeks to answer is “Why is this problem occurring?” Another way to ask it is, "What is the cause of the problem ?" It is not possible to make improvements to the process until the causal factors are identified.

  • Cofee/Bio break

  • Recap concepts learnt so farRecap the day

Review concepts learnt and ask probing questions. Q&A with participants.

  • Adjourn for the day

Day 2

    • Generate Solutions, Brainstorming, Benefit/Cost, PilotImprove Phase

The goal of the DMAIC Improve phase is to identify a solution to the problem that the project aims to address. This involves brainstorming potential solutions, selection solutions to test and evaluating the results of the implemented solutions. Often a pilot implementation is conducted prior to a full-scale rollout of improvements.

Key components of this phase include brainstorming potential solutions, evaluating and selecting solutions and putting the improvements into practice.

    • Coffee/Bio break

    • Control the process, Handle deviations, PDCA, Documentation, Standard Work, SOPControl Phase

The primary objective of the DMAIC Control phase is to ensure that the gains obtained during Improve are maintained long after the project has ended. To that end, it is necessary to standardize and document procedures, make sure all employees are trained and communicate the project’s results. In addition, the project team needs to create a plan for ongoing monitoring of the process and for reacting to any problems that arise.

Key components of this phase include standardizing and documenting the new process, training and creating a plan to monitor the process.

    • Review Concepts and Oral QuizWrap Up

Review all concepts and ask probing questions. Next steps and expectation on project completion. Hand out training completion certificates
